Below the Line is a Los Angeles-based newspaper serving the Hollywood movie crew community.
For this project, SchockDesign:
- Performed a complete website redesign with usability enhancements.
- Designed a database-backed application to allow BTL to display, assign and collect news stories from its writers.
- Programmed subscription and feedback submission forms.
- Programmed a database-backed registration and email list application
that currently supports over 1,000 users.
UCSB Admissions and Outreach Services*
UCSB Admissions and Outreach Services provides help for freshman and transfer students.
As webmaster at AOS, Jason:
- Redesigned and simplified website and information architecture.
- Designed and implemented an easy-to-manage template system.
- Designed and implemented a database-backed application to allow group visitors to make online visit requests.
- Maintained high-traffic, high-profile website.
Kurth and Rodman Network Solutions
K&R is a San Diego-based computer consulting firm.
For this project, SchockDesign:
- Totally renovated the website look and feel.
- Made usability enhancements, including easier-reading text and a friendlier layout.
- Created original logo and graphics.
- Made templates for easy future updates.
- Included dynamic enhancement features with ASP.
TimberCrest Furniture
TimberCrest
Furniture is a manufacturer of quality pine bedroom furniture based in Orange,
California. Their website provides information on their product line and
also fields catalog requests.
For this project, SchockDesign:
- Designed and created the look and feel, navigation, and page layout.
- Cataloged the company's products with an organized, easy to browse structure.
- Scanned and optimized catalog photographs.
- Created a custom program to send catalog requests via email to a TimberCrest representative.
- TimberCrest owner Jacqueline Baptie had this to say: "Thanks Jason, you did an outstanding job. We are all very happy with the web site and I will recommend you anytime."
Everything is Wrong
Everything is Wrong is a blog written by journalist and cynic, Marc Valles.
For this project, SchockDesign:
- Set up domain and hosting services.
- Helped transition Marc from his hosted blog (at blogspot.com) to his own independent website using a custom solution.
- Converted Marc's design vision to reality.
- Programmed the The Dubya Countdown Clock.
- Programmed a "What's wrong in the world" query to interface with Yahoo! News search engine.
UC Santa Barbara Daily Nexus*
The Daily Nexus website is a campus news site serving the University of California, Santa Barbara and surrounding community.
As webmaster at the Daily Nexus, Jason:
- Set up domain name registration and hosting.
- Designed and created the look and feel, navigation, and page layout.
- Programmed an original content management system to serve daily content with PHP and a SQL database.
- Made it easy for non-nerds to publish stories with a web-based administration control panel.
- Created a user login system for message board posting and other future use with similar features.
- Gave the site a community feel by integrating a message board system into individual story pages, allowing users to comment and debate directly on published topics.
- Programmed an easy-to-browse archive system for past news stories.
- Implemented a ranked keyword site search feature.
- Programmed a related stories feature to show readers other items similar to what they were currently reading.
- Maintained high-traffic, high-profile website.
Janice Schock - Educational Therapist
Janice Schock is an educational therapist in San Diego, California.
For this project, SchockDesign:
- Created an original website look and feel.
- Helped set up domain and hosting services.
- Converted elements of print brochure to work in a Web environment.
